Digital Photography A New Frontier
When you get right down to it, photography is a form of art. Many people have a camera and take photos of family and when they are on trips without really thinking about it. But to be a great photographer does take practice. As skill is developed an eye for detail and the unexpected is also formed in the photographer.
In the past, a darkroom was needed to develop the photos. Now with digital photos all that is needed is a computer printer. It is easily possible to share the photos with friends simply by emailing or by uploading to social media sites, such as Facebook. Friends and family can then have a digital version of the photos themselves and if they desire to then they also have the option of printing out a hard copy of the photos to share with others.
The LCD screen on the digital camera makes it easy to set the shot up and then to view it immediately after taking the photo. This means that further shots can be taken if required. This is a huge advantage over traditional non-digital photography. In the past photos were taken and when the film was full it was taken to be developed in a darkroom. This could have been days, weeks or even months after the original shots were taken, meaning that re-shoots could not easily be obtained.
Today the number and variety of digital cameras is very vast. There is everything from professional cameras and equipment right down to everyday digital cameras for anyone just wanting to be able to take simple shots of family, friends and holidays, for instance. Most cameras these days allow the photos to be viewed immediately after taking the shots. These photos can be rotated and cropped in many cameras, ensuring that they are at their best for printing. Once you have the camera the next step is setting up your shot. This has not really changed from older more traditional photography. A lot of the fun is in framing the shot and setting up your subject to best show off some unique or special features.
This is where the importance of having an eye for detail comes into play. It is important to realize that the lighting and other aspects of your photography will change as you look at your subject from different angles. It is important to walk around your subject and possibly even see if you can look at your subject from a lower or higher angle to get a different perspective.
As you take these shots, you can adjust the aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc on the spot until you achieve the desired results. This is especially valuable at weddings and other events where things happen in real-time and it is not always possible to recreate the moment.
Hence it is easy to see that digital photography has opened up a whole new frontier to almost everyone today. Whether it is using the digital camera on your mobile or cell phone, a compact digital camera or professional equipment, digital photography makes learning easier for everyone. Improving your photography skills can be done on the spot, in real-time as you take shots, make adjustments and then take further photos.
